I just lost my grandpa a little over a month ago. It still feels surreal...so fake...and so unfair. I cried when I read this. I'm 18, and I really wish I had spent more time with him, instead of wasting it on other, pointless things. Especially since now everything feels pointless...He always supported me too; he was the only one of my family members that did...I really...miss him.

I'm with ya! 43 yrs old, female, and also have quoted the line in the past (randomly) with a response equal to WTF?
I also quote "i'll gladly pay you tuesday" which i think is more known.
I recently was at a muslim funeral and everyone was saying 'salom' or shalom like jews do. (sorry, I don't mean to sound ignorant) It means peace, correct? As I recall, and maybe I'm wrong, I picture some middle eastern looking Popeye characters. That's how I take the line... "shalom, shalom" (and then bologne just to make it funny.

I have a theory of where salami, salami, boloni came from. I can't confirm, maybe someone can help me. I'll explain. My wife is Filipina and we watch her channel TFC. While watching I often heard "Maraming, maraming, salamat". When I heard it for the first time, Popeye came to mind. Translation is, Thank you, Thank you very much. You have to hear it to make the connection.
    Anyone?

So I'm not the only person who remembers this cartoon! Good. I'm almost 30 now & I've been using this phrase since I was a kid. In fact, it came up in conversation the other day at work;I'm a pizza delivery driver at Domino's, so it was a little random when I said it.I was reminded of this b/c someone ordered salami as a topping on their pizza, which is not very common. After I said it, no one got the reference so I had to explain it. Popeye is classic & trancends all generations. Thanks for creating a space for us to share our memories.-Brutus

and people have told me that I was silly for remembering stuff like, "salami, salami, boloni".....well, like you, I happen to like it and often use the phrase in conversations at different moments......I am glad to know there is someone else out there in this world who remembers it all too well!!!!!!

I miss my grandpa so much. I lost my grandmom when young. She was so great. She use to paint my nails baby pink. Grandpa supported what ever I wanted to do. Now my life is such a mess. I need him so badly to help me.
